So. I'm trying to come up with a plot for my next story, and I thought it might be helpful to have a look at what's already been done. I'm only going to consider canon events, because it would be impossible to try and quantify what's already been written in fiction. I could use a hand in delineating plotlines that have already been used, although some still have room for exploration. And some have been done rather a lot-both in the show and in fiction. ;)
I'm not talking about character things explored within the plot, but the basic scenario that allows for those explorations. Also, if you think a scenario has lots of possibilities left, or should never be used again, that would be interesting.
-Accidentally damaging an ecosystem/health of the population
-Accidentally helping the bad guys
-Using alien equipment with poor results
-Picking up an alien disease/organism/machine
-Being judged for past actions by a population
-Making a technical mistake that endangers personnel/planet
-Problems with rogue elements from Earth stealing stuff/becoming the enemy/acting against a local population
-Prejudging people/creatures and finding that you were wrong
-Getting stranded in a dangerous place
-Eating something you shouldn't
-Cultural misunderstanding
-Being brainwashed by the enemy
-Government/political interference
-Posession by an alien
-Imprisoned by the enemy with no obvious escape
-Captured for profit
-Being assumed to be enemies/dangerous and imprisoned
-Dreams, hallucinations, mental manipulation
-Offers with ulterior motives
-Clones
-Controlled by/living in a simulation
-Mistreatment of a population/environment for resources
-Loss of a team member (permanent or presumed permanent)
-Accidently making it easier for a population to be conquered
-Accidently revealing a population to the enemy
EDIT: Well, writing all that down was a good idea. I might have my plot. ;)

The cliche I'd like to see die a whimpering death is two-fold: culture appropriation, where either the team enlightens some backward culture in modern Western thinking (which is, of course, perfect) or solemnly don't interfere with some atrocity because the team wouldn't presume to dictate - where's the political correctness and tolerance if they do?!
I know those contradict each other, but both are provincial and wrong and drive me nuts. :)
I can't see SG-1 ever standing back and watching an atrocity unfold without trying to do something. They just aren't people who could do that. They might appreciate the quandry (Beast of Burden), but when push comes to shove, they're going to push.
I'm hoping to avoid using most of these at all, but there were a couple where I noticed som wiggle room. Mostly though, these have all had their day, and I'd like to come up with new ideas. :)
